Description
A double vase made from alabaster in the form of two crouching monkeys who support the vase on either side. The figures are executed in shallow relief and the area between them is lightly hatched. The shoulders of the vessel are pierced.

Dubbele vaas van albast in de vorm van twee hurkende apen die aan weerszijden de vaas ondersteunen. De figuren zijn in ondiep reliëf uitgevoerd en de ruimte ertussen is een weinig ruw. De schouders van het vat zijn doorboord.
Double vase en albâtre soutenu de chaque côté par deux singes accroupis. Les figures ont été exécutées en léger relief et, entre elles, la surface présente quelques hachures. Les épaules du récipient sont percées.
Ein Doppelgefäß aus Alabaster in Form zweier hockender Affen, die das Gefäß auf beiden Seiten stützen. Die Figuren sind in flachem Relief ausgeführt und die Fläche zwischen ihnen ist leicht schraffiert. An den Gefäßschultern befinden sich Durchbohrungen.
Doppio vaso in alabastro avente la forma di due scimmie accovacciate che sostengono il vaso su ambo i lati. Le figure sono eseguite in basso rilievo e l'area al centro è leggermente ombreggiata. Le spalle del vaso sono forate.
Vaso duplo, feito em alabastro, com forma de dois macacos inclinados, que suportam o vaso em cada um dos lados. As figuras estao trabalhadas em baixo relevo, com a área entre os dois ligeiramente tracejada. Os ombros do vaso encontram-se perfurados.
Vaso doble de alabastro con forma de dos monos acuclillados que sujetan el vaso por cada lado. Las figuras están realizadas con un relieve poco profundo y la zona entre ellas está ligeramente sombreada. Los hombros del recipiente están horadados.

Originally in the private collection belonging to the author Sir H. Rider Haggard, who bequeathed it to the Castle Museum, Norwich. The museum collection was purchased by Liverpool Museum in 1956.

Preservation: The lids are missing. Iconography: Monkeys were often depicted in domestic tomb scenes, showing that they were kept as pets.
