Description
Hollow bronze case with the figure of an eel along the top, indicating that this was a container for a mummified eel. In the period between 700 BC and AD 100, large numbers of animals were mummified throughout Egypt and buried as votive offerings to specific deities. The eel was considered appropriate to Atum, the form of the creator before the creation took shape.
