Hol bronzen etui met een afbeelding van een aal aan de bovenkant, hetgeen suggereert dat dit een houder voor een gemummificeerde aal was. In de periode tussen 700 voor en 100 na Christus werden grote aantallen dieren in heel Egypte gemummificeerd en daarna begraven als votiefgaven voor specifieke godheden. De aal werd beschouwd als passend voor Atoem, de vorm van de scheppergod voor de schepping plaatsvond.

Entre 700 avant J.-C. et 100 après J.-C., un grand nombre d'animaux furent momifiés dans toute l'Égypte et inhumés pour servir d'offrandes votives à des divinités spécifiques. L'anguille était destinée à Atoum, forme du démiurge avant la création.

In der Zeit zwischen 700 v.Chr. und 100 n.Chr. wurden in ganz Ägpten große Mengen von Tieren mumifiziert und als Votivgaben für bestimmte Gottheiten begraben. Der Aal galt als dem Atum zugehörig, als Form des Schöpfers, bevor die Schöpfung Gestalt annahm.

In the period between 700 BC and AD 100, large numbers of animals were mummified throughout Egypt and buried as votive offerings to specific deities.
