Description
Black-painted wooden face from a coffin of the late New Kingdom, from a burial in the precinct of the Middle Kingdom temple at Deir el-Bahari. The coffin face was often made from a separate piece of wood, carefully carved and painted before affixing to the coffin body with dowels.

Zwartgeschilderd houten gezicht van een sarcofaag uit het late Nieuwe Rijk, uit een bijzetting op het terrein van de Middenrijkstempel te Deir el-Bahari. Het gezicht van een sarcofaag werd vaak vervaardigd uit een afzonderlijk stuk hout, dat zorgvuldig gesneden en beschilderd werd alvorens met deuvels aan de sarcofaag bevestigd te worden.
Masque en bois peint en noir, provenant d'un sarcophage de la fin du Nouvel Empire découvert à Deir el-Bahari, dans une tombe aménagée dans l'enceinte du temple du Moyen Empire.
