The Global Egyptian Museum

A painted low-relief depicts Zeus and Leda. Zeus was well known for his continuous passion for beautiful women. He fell in love with Leda at first sight, and insisted on becoming close to her. He took the shape of a swan and abducted her, attacking her with the help of Eros, the god of love. 

The influence of the Ancient Greek mythology in the Christian era is shown in the engraving, despite the opposition of Christianity's ideas and teachings to these legends. 

These mythologies remained popular, even if they lost their religious meaning for the Christians, or might have carried different metaphors to fit the teachings of the new religion.

Ce bas-relief peint représente Zeus et Léda. Célèbre pour la passion qu'il nourrissait envers les belles femmes, le dieu du tonnerre eut un véritable coup de foudre pour Léda. Décidé à la conquérir, il prit alors l'apparence d'un cygne et l'enleva avec l'aide d'Eros, dieu de l'amour. 

Bien que les idées véhiculées par le christianisme s'opposaient à ce type de légende, cette gravure témoigne de l'influence de la mythologie grecque à l'époque chrétienne. 

Même s'ils ont perdu leur sens religieux aux yeux des chrétiens ou qu'ils ont pris différentes métaphores pour s'adapter aux enseignements d'une nouvelle religion, les mythes sont restés relativement populaires.

لوحة عليها زخرفة بالبارز تمثل زيوس وليدا . وهنا الإله زيوس الذي كان معروفا بعشقه الدائم للنساء الجميلات قد رأي ليدا فأحبها وصمم علي الإستئناس بها. فإتخذ شكل البجعة وقام بإختطافها والإعتداء عليها بمساعدة إله الحب أيروس. 

نري هنا تأثير الأساطير اليونانية القديمة على النقوش في العصر المسيحي ورغم إنتشار المسيحية وتعارض أفكارها وتعاليمها مع هذه الأساطير إلا أنها استمرت شائعة.

إن كانت قد فقدت معناها الديني عند المسيحيين، أو أصبح لها مغزى جديد ومختلف يتفق وتعاليم الدين الجديد.
