The Global Egyptian Museum

The terra-cotta head of Alexander the Great is all that remains from a statue that probably measured 60 centimeters. It depicts Alexander as a god, with his head tilted slightly to the right and the eyes looking to the sky. 

The face and back of the head were molded, while the hair and the locks that frame the face were made by hand. The summit of the head had an emblem, a symbolic object used as an identifying mark, which is now missing, and there are traces of white plaster. 

Probably this statuette is a small reproduction of another statue made of marble. It illustrates the influence of the cult of Alexander in the Greek world.

Cette petite tête en terre cuite d'Alexandre le Grand est tout ce qui reste d'une statue mesurant probablement 60 centimètres. Elle représente Alexandre sous les traits d'un dieu ; sa tête est légèrement inclinée vers la droite et ses yeux regardent vers le ciel.

Le visage et l'arrière de la tête furent moulés alors que les cheveux et les mèches furent réalisés à la main. A une époque, le sommet de la tête était orné d'un emblème, ou objet symbolique utilisé en tant que marque d'identification. De plus, des traces de plâtre blanc sont encore visibles. 

Cette statuette était probablement une petite reproduction d'une autre statue en marbre. Elle témoigne de l'influence du culte d'Alexandre le Grand dans le monde grec.

رأس تراكوتا (طين محروق) للإسكندر الأكبر تبقى من تمثال صغير، ربما بارتفاع 60 سم. وهو يصور الإسكندر الأكبر كمعبود، ويميل الرأس قليلا نحو اليمين بينما تتطلع العينان إلى السماء. 

الوجه ومؤخرة الرأس مشكلان في قالب، بينما نحت الشعر وخصلات الشعر المحيط بالوجه. وكانت قمة الرأس تحمل إحدى رموز الإسكندر المعبود، وهي الآن مفقودة وتوجد آثار من الجبس الأبيض. 

ويحتمل أن يكون هذا التمثال نموذجاً مصغراً لآخـَر من المرمر، يعبر عن عبادة الإسكندر في العالم الإغريقي.
