The Global Egyptian Museum

The marble sarcophagus is decorated with a relief representing scenes from Greek mythology.

The front side depicts Dionysos with his hallmark diadem, or crown, of grape vines, carrying a thyrsus stick, which ends in the shape of an artichoke. Since Dionysos has fallen in love with the beautiful Ariadne at first sight, Cupid as a child is shown flying above him. The girl is sleeping and beside her stands the god of sleep, Hypnos. 

On the right of the sarcophagus is a scene showing Hercules, heavily drunk, and being led by satyrs away from the wedding party. He is being helped to walk by one of his followers while another carries his heavy club. Preceding them is a woman bearing a torch to light the way. 

On the left side is an unfinished scene of grape picking and crushing in the Egyptian style.

Ce sarcophage en marbre est orné d'un relief représentant des scènes de la mythologie grecque.

La face avant montre Dionysos coiffé d'une couronne de pampres. Il tient un thyrse dont l'extrémité a la forme d'un artichaut. Etant donné que Dionysos eut un véritable coup de foudre pour la belle Ariane, Cupidon est également dépeint dans cette scène. Il est représenté sous les traits d'un enfant ailé. Ajoutons que la jeune fille est endormie et qu'à ses côtés se trouve le dieu du sommeil Hypnos. 

A droite du sarcophage, une scène montre un Hercule soûl emmené par les satyres; ils quittent une cérémonie de mariage. L'un de ses partisans l'aide à marcher alors qu'un autre porte sa lourde massue. Devant eux, on peut voir une femme tenir une torche afin d'éclairer leur chemin. 

Sur le côté gauche, une scène inachevée dépeint la cueillette et le foulage des raisins d'après le style égyptien.

زين التابوت الرخامي بنقش بارز يمثل مناظر من الأساطير الإغريقية. 

يصور الجانب الأمامي ديونيسوس بإكليله وعلامته المميزة أو تاج من الكرم حاملاً عصاه "الثيرسوس" التي تنتهي بما يشبه الخرشوف، أما وقد وقع ديونيسوس في غرام أريادنى الجميلة من النظرة الأولى فقد صور كيوبيد طفلاً تطير من فوقه. والفتاة نائمة وإلى جانبها يقف إله النوم هيبنوس.

يرى الى يمين التابوت منظر فيه هرقل ثملاً جداً يقتاده ساتيرس بعيداً عن حفل الزفاف، ويساعده على المسير أحد أتباعه على حين يحمل عنه آخر عصاه تسبقهم امرأة تحمل مشعلاً لإضاءة الطريق.

وعلى الجانب الأيسر منظر غير مكتمل لجني العنب وهرسه على الأسلوب المصري.
