The small marble head depicts Alexander the Great with his well-known features: the upward look of the eyes, the sharp nose, and the snaky hair. There is a crack in the neck. Heads of Alexander the Great such as this one have religious significance.

The cult of Alexander the Great became the official religion in Egypt, with special rituals and ceremonies such as the annual celebration of the founding of Alexandria. 

During the festival, the priests decorated the statues of Alexander and carried them through the temples. The public also participated in the festivities. Numerous relatively smaller statues also were placed in houses and villas.

Cette petite tête en marbre représente Alexandre le Grand avec ses traits caractéristiques: les yeux levés, le nez pointu et les cheveux ondulés. Précisons également qu'il y a une craquelure au niveau du cou. Des têtes telles que celle-ci ont joué un rôle important du point de vue religieux. 

En effet, le culte d'Alexandre le Grand devint la religion officielle en Egypte. D'ailleurs, cette religion fut marquée par des rites et des cérémonies telles que la commémoration annuelle de la fondation d'Alexandrie. 

Au cours de ce festival, les prêtres décoraient les statues d'Alexandre et les portaient dans les temples. Le public prenait également part aux festivités. Un grand nombre de statues relativement plus petites étaient aussi placées dans les maisons et les villas.

رأس صغير من الرخام، للإسكندر الأكبر، بملامحه الشهيرة: نظرة العينين إلى أعلى، والأنف الحاد والشعر المموج، مع وجود كسر في الأنف. وكان لرؤس الإسكندر الأكبر التي تماثل هذه الرأس أهمية دينية.

كما أنتشرت عبادة الإسكندر الأكبر في مصر، وأصبحت عبادة رسمية بشعائر ومراسم خاصة: مثل الاحتفال السنوي بإنشاء الإسكندرية. 

وكان الكهنة في هذا الاحتفال، يزينون تماثيل الإسكندر ويحملونها خلال المعابد. وشارك العامة أيضا في الاحتفالات، وكانت هناك كذلك تماثيل عديدة أصغر ومن مواد أقل تكلفة تستخدم في المنازل.
