Anubis, the black jackal, was the animal that personified the deity who was believed to protect the cemetery, and thus became the patron deity of mummification. Anubis was depicted in funerary scenes guiding the deceased to Osiris in the court of justice. Embalmers performing the mummification of the corpses wore jackal masks. 

In the legend of the divine birth of Queen Hatshepsut and King Amenhotep the third, Anubis is represented rolling or bringing the disk of the moon and wishing the young royal children long life. In modern times, ceremonies performed on the seventh day of a child's birth contain a step, in which the newly born child is put in a sieve and is shaken and asked to "obey his mother and not to obey his father."

On this cartonnage piece, the jackal-headed god comes, carrying the disk of the moon, and wishing the deceased long life. He wears a gilded collar, an unusual short kilt with a long tail hanging from the front and sandals. A long, wide white drapery hangs from behind and reaches the feet.

Anubis, le chacal noir, était l'animal personnifiant la divinité qui protégeait le cimetière. Elle devint ensuite la divinité protectrice de la momification. Anubis était représenté dans des scènes funéraires, guidant le défunt vers Osiris dans la cour de justice. Les embaumeurs qui procédaient à la momification des cadavres avaient l'habitude de porter des masques en forme de chacal. 

Dans la légende de la naissance divine de la reine Hatchepsout et du roi Amenhotep Trois, Anubis est représenté en train de rouler ou d'apporter le disque lunaire et de souhaiter longue vie à l'enfant royal. Aux temps modernes, les cérémonies du septième jour après la naissance d'un enfant contiennent une marche sur laquelle le nouveau-né est placé sur un tamis et secoué. On lui demande alors "d'obéir à sa mère et de ne pas obéir à son père." 

Sur cette pièce cartonnée, le dieu à tête de chacal arrive, tenant le disque lunaire et souhaitant longue vie au défunt. Il porte un col doré, un kilt court inhabituel à longue queue traînant sur le devant ainsi que des sandales. Une longe et large étoffe pend à l'arrière jusqu'aux pieds.

كان أنوبيس، ابن آوى الأسود، الحيوان الذي جسد المعبود الذي افترض أنه يحمي الجبانة؛ وعلى هذا أصبح المعبود الراعي للتحنيط. وكان أنوبيس يصور في المشاهد الجنائزية وهو يرشد المتوفى إلى أوزوريس في ساحة العدالة. وكان المحنطون للجثث يرتدون أقنعة بشكل رأس ابن آوى. 

ولقد صور أنوبيس في أسطورة الولادة الإلهية للملكة حتشبسوت والملك أمنحوتب الثالث، وهو يدحرج قرص القمر ويتمنى للطفلين الملكيين طول العمر. في عصرنا الحالى، تعقد الحفلات في اليوم السابع للولادة؛ حيث يوضع المولود في غربال ويهز ويطلب منه أن "يطيع أمه ولا يطيع أباه".

ولقد صور المعبود الذي برأس ابن آوى، على قطعة الكارتوناج المعروضة، وقد أتى حاملا قرص القمر؛ متمنيا للمتوفى طول البقاء في الحياة الآخرة. وهو يرتدي صدرية ذهبية، ونقبة قصيرة بذيل طويل يتدلى من الأمام، وزوجا من الصنادل. وتتدلى قطعة قماش بيضاء عريضة من الخلف، ملامسة للقدمين.
