كان رمسيس الثالث ابنا وخليفة للملك ست نخت، مؤسس الأسرة العشرين. 

ويصوره هذا التمثال كاهنا أعلى، قابضا على لواء مرتفع، يحلي طرفه الأعلى رأس كبش، رمزا للرب آمون رع. 

وتصوير الفرعون كاهنا أعلى، يتيح له، ولو على سبيل الرمز، المشاركة في شعائر المعابد كافة، الأمر الذي قد ضمنه بطريقة سحرية عن طريق نقش مناظره، ووضع تماثيله الحجرية في المعابد

Ramesses the Third was the son and successor of Sethnakht, the founder of the Twentieth Dynasty. 

The statue portrays him as a high priest, holding a long standard decorated at the top with a ram's head, emblem of the god Amun-Re. 

Depicting himself as a high priest allowed Ramesses the Third to symbolically attend all ceremonies in every temple. Engraving his images on the walls and installing his statues in the temples magically ensured his presence.

Ramsès Trois était le fils et le successeur de Sethnakht, fondateur de la vingtième dynastie. 

La statue le représente en tant que grand prêtre. Ramsès Trois tient un long étendard décoré au sommet par une tête de bélier, emblème du dieu Amon-Rê. 

Par ailleurs, sous cette apparence de grand prêtre, il pouvait symboliquement assister à toutes les cérémonies qui se déroulaient dans chaque temple. En gravant ses images sur les murs et en plaçant des statues à son effigie dans les temples, il garantissait sa présence par la magie.
