An oval funerary urn made of alabaster, it is supported on a round base.

Urns of this type were used to preserve the ashes of cremated bodies, and represent one of the methods used for burial of the dead; cremation was common and widespread during the Hellenistic period. 

The importance of this particular container is that it is made of alabaster. Funerary urns were usually made of decorated pottery, which was a much cheaper material.

Ce genre d'urnes était utilisé pour la préservation des cendres des corps incinérés et représente une des méthodes utilisées pour l'enterrement des défunts. L'incinération était chose courante et bien répandue pendant la période hellénistique.

L'importance de ce récipient particulier qu'il est fabriqué d'albâtre. Les urnes funéraires étaient en général fabriquées en poterie décorée, matériau bien meilleur marché.

كانت هذه الآنية تستخدم فى حفظ رماد جثث الموتى بعد حرقها، وهى تمثل طريقة من طرق دفن الموتى والتى كانت شائعة فى العصر الهلينيستى. 

ترجع أهمية هذه الآنية أنها مصنوعة من الألباستر، حيث كانت الأوانى الجنائزية عادة ماتصنع من الفخار المزخرف وذلك لإنخفاض ثمنه.
