Combination of the white crown of Upper Egypt and the red crown of Lower Egypt, also called 'the Two Powerful Ones' ('pa sekhemty' in Egyptian, from which the Greek name for the double crown, 'pschent', is derived). The double crown is an indication that the wearer is the ruler of the Two Lands.
