Carnelian necklace with tubular bead and amulet

String of carnelian beads of various forms: spherical, disk-shaped, barrel-shaped and tubular. In the Middle Kingdom a large tubular carnelian bead is often found placed at the neck to safeguard the dead person. It is named in texts as the seweret-bead.
