Description
Small bowl found in a Middle Kerma burial at Sai. Its shape is hemispherical with a restricted mouth and a simple lip. Both surfaces have been smoothened. The exterior surface bear a complex decorative pattern: a series of triangles filled with horizontal lines, impressed using a roller-stamping method. The depressions are filled with a white paste. A specimen of this type of vessel is generally placed in the most important burials of the Middle Kerma period. It is derived from well-known vessels ot the Old Kerma and early C-Group periods. During the Middle Kerma, they are slightly cruder in manufacture, as with this particular example.
