Description
So-called Baubo figures are well known from all parts of the ancient world. They were popular from the 4th century B.C. onwards and have been found in sanctuaries as well as in cemeteries and settlements. They usually date from the Roman Period in Egyptian history. The figures are interpreted as apotropaic fertility symbols. This statuette depicts a nude, squatting woman with her legs spread apart. Her hands are on her genitals.

Zogenaamde Baubo-figuren zijn bekend uit alle delen van de antieke wereld. Ze werden populair vanaf de vierde eeuw voor Christus, en worden zowel in heiligdommen als in grafvelden en nederzettingen gevonden. In Egypte zijn ze voornamelijk afkomstig uit de Romeinse Periode. Men denkt dat het vruchtbaarheidsfiguren zijn die het kwaad moesten afweren. Dit beeldje stelt een naakte, hurkende vrouw met gespreide benen voor. Haar handen liggen op haar genitaliën.
Des figures appelées "Baubo" sont attestées dans de nombreux endroits de l'ancien monde. Populaires à partir du quatrième siècle avant notre ère, elles ont été découvertes dans des sanctuaires ainsi que dans des nécropoles et des établissements. En Égypte, elles datent principalement de la Période Romaine. Elles étaient considérées comme des figures de fécondité apotropaïques. Cette statuette représente une femme nue, les jambes écartées. Ses mains sont posées sur les organes génitaux.
Sogenannte Baubo-Figuren sind aus vielen Teilen der antiken Welt bekannt. Sie waren vom 4. Jahrhundert v. Chr. an verbreitet und wurden sowohl in Heiligtümern als auch in Friedhöfen und Siedlungen gefunden. Der Großteil stammt aus dem römerzeitlichen Ägypten. Die Figuren werden als Unheil abwehrende Fruchtbarkeitssymbole interpretiert. Diese Statuette zeigt eine nackte, hockende Frau mit auseinander gespreizten Beinen. Die Hände sind an die Scham gelegt.
Le cosiddette figure Baubo sono ben note in tutte le zone del mondo antico. Esse divennero popolari a partire dal IV secolo a.C. e sono state trovate all'interno di santuari, cimiteri e insediamenti. Esse datano, per la maggior parte, al Periodo Romano della storia egizia. Le figure sono considerate simboli apotropiaci di fertilità. Questa statuetta mostra una donna nuda accovacciata con le gambe divaricate. Le mani sono distese sui genitali.
