Description
Large section of a much-worn fringed linen textile, bearing woven purple and red wool geometric motifs. The cloth is typical of late Roman and Byzantine production. Such decorated textiles survive from Egyptian desert burials on a massive scale, thanks to the custom of wrapping the unmummified Christian dead in cloths from life.
