Description
The statuette depicts a monkey playing with a musical instrument in front of a small obelisk. The monkey is standing on its hind legs and the artist increased the length of its tail to support the weight of the figure. The artist also used small marks on its back and head to indicate areas of thicker fur. The top of the obelisk is adorned with a circular hole, probably representing the sun god Re, whom monkeys were believed to greet at sunrise.
