Description
This beautiful pectoral was attached to the outer surface of the bandages on the chest of the mummy. The pectoral was not merely another ornament but had an important funerary function. In the center of the pectoral there is a winged scarab symbolizing the "heart scarab," which helped the deceased to gain resurrection when he came before Osiris, god of the dead, at the final judgment. This is according to Spell 31b of the Book of the Dead.
