Kohl is gemaakt van galena en werd voor oogschmink gebruikt. Daar oogziekten in het oude Egypte vaak voorkwamen bewaarde men medicijnen zoals kohl in dergelijke potjes. De container die met plantmotieven is versierd wordt omarmd door een rechtstaande aap (de groene meerkat) en op de voorkant prijkt de beeltenis van de godin Taweret. De aap, die in het Nieuwe Rijk een populair (huis)dier was, en Taweret, komen vaak voor als versiering op toiletartikelen. Het object was oorspronkelijk helemaal zwart geschilderd waarbij de ingegrifte details met gele verf waren beschilderd.
